India is all set to co-host the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup from September 30 to November 2, returning home after 12 years. Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who is the only player left from the team that played in the 2013 edition at home, is confident the squad is ready to face the challenge and make the nation proud.
All eyes will be on Smriti Mandhana, who is touted to be India’s biggest match-winner, given her recent form. The Indian team is scheduled to play its opening game against co-hosts Sri Lanka on Tuesday, September 30. India will then face bitter rivals Pakistan in Colombo on October 5.
Fans are hoping for a strong showing this year, considering the Indian team has the home advantage and an experienced squad. Harmanpreet and her team will look to create history by becoming the first Indian women’s team to lift the trophy.

The Indian women’s team has had mixed results in previous editions of the ODI World Cup. The team reached the semifinals in the 1997 and 2000 editions and were runners-up in 2005 and 2017. However, India faced early exits in several editions, including 2022.

The Indian team has shown mixed results in their recent series. On the England tour in July 2025, they won two out of three ODI games to seal the series. However, during the Australian women’s tour of India in September, India suffered a heavy defeat in two out of three matches and lost the series 2-1.
