India A were knocked out of the Asia Cup Rising Stars after a defeat at the hands of Bangladesh A in a thrilling match decided via a Super Over in Doha on Friday. India could not score even a run in the Super Over and Bangladesh then won the game via a wide. The decision to not send tournament’s highest and fastest run-scorer Vaibhav Suryavanshi in the Super Over has baffled fans with captain Jitesh Sharma being targetted for poor decision making.
Jitesh himself came out to bat in the Super Over with Ramandeep Singh and after the skipper fell on the first ball, it was Ashutosh Sharma who was sent in but he too lost his wicket on the very next delivery.
Suryavanshi who had smashed two fours and four sixes earlier in the match to power India A to a rapid start sat in the dugout as the Men in Blue could not even open their account in the one-over eliminator.
Jitesh explains Suryavanshi’s Super Over snub
While Jitesh applauded Suryavanshi and his opening partner Priyansh Arya, who was India A’s top scorer in the semifinal, the captain also said that those responsible for hitting in death overs were sent in the Super Over.
“In the team, Vaibhav and Priyansh are masters of the powerplay, while in the death overs, Ashu and Raman can hit at will. So the Super Over lineup was a team decision, and I made the final call,” Jitesh said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
Jitesh trolled on social media
The Vidarbha wicket-keeper batter was heavily trolled on social media for his choice of batters in the Super Over.
