Mohammed Siraj gave a massive reprieve to Harry Brook on Day 4 of the Oval Test as he could not control his feet from touching the boundary line after taking the catch of the batsman in the 35th over of England's innings.

It was a shortish delivery bowled by Prasidh Krishna, Brook top-edged the pull and it went straight to Siraj at the long leg region, who completed the catch but touched the boundary cushion. Consequently, six runs were awarded to Book and England. It could prove to be a huge moment in the context of the result, and Siraj’s reaction told the whole story. The pacer could not believe it and covered his face after making the goof-up.

Prasidh was celebrating as soon as the ball went up because he was so sure his teammate would have it covered, but his reaction changed. It was ecstasy to agony for Prasidh.

The error in judgment made by Siraj opened the ground for an inundation of reactions on social media.

Prasidh Krishna created a chance but there was an error in judgement from Mohammed Siraj.

Siraj has given his 200% effort in this Test but that one chance will haunt him if Harry Brook goes on to play a big innings.

Siraj’s blunder costs India dearly

Brook was batting on 19*, when that episode occurred. He added another 92 runs afterwards and enhanced India’s misery exponentially. Brook smashed a 98-ball 111, and forged a 195-run partnership with Joe Root that pushed India to the corner on Day 4 of The Oval Test.

While Brook did enough to assure England’s victory in the Test, the match is still hanging in balance as Team India carved its way back into the game in the final session of the day’s play. Having removed Brook just before Tea. Indian bowlers came charged up and inflicted two heavy dismissals in the form of Jacob Bethell and the other centurion of the day, Joe Root. With six wickets gone and 35 runs remaining, the match was heading towards a thrilling finish, but rain played a spoilsport in the final hour of the day, and hence, stumps were declared. The action will move to Day 5, where the morning session will most probably witness the eventual winner of the match.
