Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma made their much-awaited return to domestic cricket on Wednesday (24 December) in the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 List A tournament, but their matches are not being streamed live, leading to angry reactions from fans. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma played one Ranji Trophy match each earlier this year, but they are playing in the Vijay Hazare Trophy after years.

Kohli last played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2010, while Rohit’s last participation came in 2018. Both Kohli and Rohit have returned to the Vijay Hazare Trophy to gain some much-needed match practice before the ODI series vs New Zealand in January 2026 and to stay in contention for the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Fans slam BCCI for not streaming Rohit, Kohli’s matches

Having retired from Tests and T20Is, there have been questions over how Kohli and Rohit will prepare for international ODIs. Domestic cricket and IPL appear to be the only options. But fans are extremely unhappy with the BCCI as their matches are not being shown live online.

Kohli made a return with Delhi’s match against Andhra which is being played at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru, while Rohit is part of Mumbai’s playing XI against Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

Videos going viral on social media have shown a large number of fans turning up to the stadium in Jaipur to catch a glimpse of Rohit, while Kohli’s match in Bengaluru is being played behind closed doors.

Why is BCCI not showing Virat Kohli’s Vijay Hazare Trophy match live

Kohli’s comeback to the Vijay Hazare Trophy will not be available to watch live because the BCCI is facing logistical challenges with broadcast equipment. According to Hindustan Times, BCCI currently has full-fledged broadcasting facilities at just two venues – the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

Which is why the Pondicherry vs Tamil Nadu match in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad vs Uttar Pradesh game at Rajkot are being streamed live, but the other 17 matches are being played behind closed doors.
