Vaibhav Suryavanshi (Sooryavanshi) added a new feather to his cap on Tuesday (2 December) with his third T20 hundred during the Bihar vs Maharashtra match in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025-26 at the Eden Gardens.

The 14-year-old Suryavanshi scored a highly impressive 108 not out off just 61 balls to register his first Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy trophy in only his fifth game. The Bihar youngster took just 58 balls to get to his hundred against a bowling attack comprising Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Jalaj Saxena and Arshin Kulkarni. Overall, he smashed seven sixes and seven fours.

Suryavanshi makes new batting world record

As a result of the latest feat, Rajasthan Royals batter Suryavanshi has become the first teenager in the world to smash three T20 centuries and he is only 14!

Chennai Super Kings’ Ayush Mhatre, who also hit a century recently in SMAT, and France’s Gustav Mackeon are second in the charts with two T20 centuries before turning 20. While 18-year-old Mhatre can still equal Suryavanshi’s feat, Mackeon is already 22.

Suryavanshi has also become the youngest player to hit a hundred in SMAT. Interestingly, all three T20 centuries for Suryavanshi in the 16 innings so far have come for different teams.

Earlier this year, Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest-ever player to hit a century in men’s T20 cricket when he smashed 101 off 38 balls for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in IPL 2025.

His second T20 hundred came in the Asia Cup Rising Stars 2025 against the UAE as Suryavanshi scored 144 off just 42 balls for India A. He reached his hundred in just 32 balls, which is the joint-third fastest for an Indian in men’s T20.

Unfortunately, Suryavanshi could not lead Bihar to a victory on Tuesday as Maharashtra won the match by three wickets. They complete the 177-run chase in the final with five balls to spare. Prithvi Shaw smashed 66 off 30 balls to help his team win in Kolkata.
