Popular cricket podcast The Grade Cricketer has come up with a hilarious response to a clampdown by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their coverage of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) .
The podcast, which is hosted by Australian cricket writers Sam Perry and Ian Higgins, uploaded its latest episode on YouTube on Tuesday which focused on Rajasthan Royals sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s record-breaking century against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur the day before.
While discussing “the most extraordinary performance of anybody ever in cricket”, Perry and Higgins referred to the Indian Premier League as the “the really big T20 tournament”.

And since they are no longer authorised to use images and clips from the IPL or mention team names, the podcast featured an image of Suryavanshi with a bat, hand-drawn by Perry’s kids.
Here’s what the sketch of the 14-year-old RR batter looks like:

TGC, which is hugely popular not just in Australia but also in India and wherever else cricket enjoys a serious following, had received a legal notice over the weekend from the BCCI regarding its coverage of the 18th IPL season in a series, which was titled ‘The Big IPL Breakfast’.
As a result of the letter, Perry and Higgins were forced to take down hundreds of videos which used photos and logos from the tournament from YouTube and other platforms such as Instagram, Facebook and X.
The BCCI reportedly claimed that the podcast’s use of still images from the IPL was “commercial” in nature rather than editorial. While cricket boards have been strict with the usage of video clips, BCCI’s crackdown on the usage of images is a new trend.
