Team India is beleaguered with massive injury trouble ahead of the start of the fourth Test against England in Manchester. Following Arshdeep Singh, who suffered a hand injury during Thursday’s net session, the injury issues of Akash Deep have also sprung up, and consequently, he will also likely remain out of the fourth Test.

As per a report by the Times of India, the pacer is reportedly dealing with a recurring back issue, which has flared up again. The bowler faced difficulty in completing his spells in the second innings at Lord’s and remains doubtful for the penultimate Test of the series, which is scheduled to begin on Wednesday. Given the plight, the team management has called up Haryana pacer Anshul Kamboj as a contingency measure.

India forced to rotate between Bumrah and Akash Deep

Akash Deep’s injury has elevated the misery of India manifold. As the situation is already on tenterhooks about Jasprit Bumrah, who is expected to feature in only one of the remaining two tests. Deep’s injury concern has put India under the pump to rotate between the two bowlers. One can assert that India have no choice but to empty the battery of Bumrah in the 4th Test and then give him rest for the 5th Test, where Akash Deep will return. The TOI report confirms the same.

“Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep won’t be playing together in the remaining two Tests,” a source said. “It was decided before the tour that Bumrah will only play three Tests in this series, and now with Akash’s back niggle flaring up, we can’t see both of them playing in the XI together.

“If Bumrah plays in Manchester, then Akash will sit out. At The Oval, Akash will replace Bumrah.”

As Team India is trailing 1-2 in the series, they are facing a must-win position. A loss at Old Trafford will hand England an assailable lead. Thus, the situation calls for Shubman Gill and Co. to summon their strength and storm into Old Trafford with the strongest XI, but considering the unfortunate circumstances, India will enter the 4th Test with a diminished bowling attack.
