Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson faces scrutiny following his team’s failure to reach the semi-finals of the ongoing T20 World Cup. Hesson, who had been appointed Pakistan’s white-ball coach last year, had come under the scanner after Pakistan selector Aleem Dar reportedly resigned from his role citing the New Zealander’s interference in selection issues.

And according to a report, Hesson’s conduct is also said to have bothered some members of the Pakistan squad during the T20 World Cup, leading to the Pakistan Cricket Board receiving complaints against the 51-year-old.

PCB unlikely to sack Hesson right away, only issue a warning

A report on Geo News claims that players have questioned the former New Zealand head coach’s “planning, authority and man-management” during the tournament, which has currently entered its final week.

The report adds that the Mohsin Naqvi-led PCB isn’t likely to sack him from the role in the immediate aftermath of the T20 World Cup, they are likely to warn him over “flawed planning and unilateral decision-making” harming the team’s performance.

Senior board officials currently are reviewing his conduct and are examining the tour report before getting into a detailed discussion with Hesson, whose authority control over the team’s affairs has become an issue for the selection committee as well as T20I captain Salman Ali Agha. The Kiwi is also believed to have made a number of key decisions including benching Fakhar Zaman and Abrar Ahmed – both of whom were key performers in the victory over Sri Lanka.

Pakistan had finished third in Group 2 of the Super 8s, having suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of England after their match against New Zealand was washed out. They needed to beat Sri Lanka by a margin of 65 runs, but were lucky to escape with a five-run victory in the end after a heroic fight back by the co-hosts towards the end.
