IPL 2025: Suryakumar Yadav breaks Sachin Tendulkar's 15-year-old record for Mumbai Indians

Suryakumar Yadav has made history in the IPL 2025 season. In the match against Punjab Kings on Monday, the Mumbai Indians star scored 57 runs off 39 balls and broke a long-standing record set by the legendary Sachin Tendulkar.

SKY breaks Tendulkar’s record

Tendulkar had scored 618 runs in the 2010 season, which was the most by any Mumbai Indians batter in a single IPL season for the last 15 years. But now, Suryakumar has gone past that mark, reaching 640 runs so far in IPL 2025.

He has been the most consistent batter for MI this season, scoring runs in almost every game and leading from the front. In the match today, he hit 6 fours and 2 sixes and looked in great touch before getting out LBW to Arshdeep Singh in the final over.

Thanks to his knock, Mumbai Indians posted a competitive total of 184/7 in 20 overs. But Punjab Kings chased down the target with ease and won the game by 7 wickets with 9 balls remaining. PBKS have now moved to the top of the IPL 2025 points table.

With this win, PBKS secured a top 2 finish in the IPL 2025 playoff race and will now play Qualifier 1 - either against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) or Gujarat Titans (GT). The match between Bengaluru and Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday will confirm their opponent.

Mumbai Indians, on the other hand, will play the Eliminator on 30 May. They will also keep an eye on the RCB vs LSG game to see who will be their opponent.
