The second season of the much hyped World Championship of Legends (WCL) culminated on Saturday, and it is the team of South Africa Legends who overwhelmed Pakistan Legends in the final to emerge as the new champions.

Batting first, Pakistan posted a monumental total of 195/5 after 20 overs. However, it proved to be too brittle in front of the towering top order of South Africa. Despite being a retired professional, AB de Villiers did not miss a beat and inflicted a merciless beating on PAK, smashing an unbeaten 120 in just 60 deliveries. De Villiers got support from JP Duminy, who did what was required and scored a flawless 50 in just 28 balls. The combined effort by De Villiers and Duminy took SA past the finish line inside 17 overs, securing a massive 9-wicket win in Birmingham.

Suresh Raina takes a brutal dig at Pakistan

Following the conclusion of the WCL finale, fans raved about South Africa’s impeccable victory against Pakistan and varied reactions were dropped. Besides the fans, individuals from the cricket fraternity also chimed in with their opinion on the result. Among the responses, it was Suresh Raina’s comment that stood out.

The former Indian cricketer congratulated AB de Villiers for playing a brilliant knock in the final and, along with that, he conveyed that India would have handed Pakistan the same reverberating loss had the situation been ideal for a clash.

What a knock by @ABdeVilliers17 in the final, absolutely smashed it

Had we played, we would’ve crushed them too, but we chose our nation above everything else.

Full respect to @EaseMyTrip and @nishantpitti for standing firm and not supporting any match involving them. That’s…

It should be noted that India Champions refused to play Pakistan Champions in the competition due to the ongoing tensions between the nations, which were embroiled in the wake of the devastating Pahalgam Terror Attack.

The team of India Champions, which included the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Shikhar Dhawan, and Suresh Raina, unanimously pulled out of the group stage game against Pakistan and later denied playing against the team in the semi-final. Consequently, India had to forfeit, and the team of Pakistan Champions advanced to the final.
