After an impressive cameo in a losing cause, Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) Aniket Verma was at it again as he smashed his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) fifty on Sunday (30 March) . The youngster’s fiery fifty came in just 34 balls against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam.
Aniket Verma’s impressive knock eventually came to an end on 74 off 41 balls including six sixes and five fours as he helped SRH post 163 after they were reduced to 37/4 at one stage with Mitchell Starc taking three wickets in the powerplay and five by the end of the innings.
Aniket, however, not only steadied the innings with a quick-fire 77-run partnership in just 42 balls with Heinrich Klaasen (32 off 19 balls) but provided the required impetus by hitting two sixes and four in a single over from DC captain Axar Patel.
Four out of his six sixes came against Axar while Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam were also sent out of the park once each.
Earlier, Aniket scored 36 off just 13 balls against Lucknow Super Giants on Thursday as SRH lost by five wickets.
Who is Aniket Verma?
Aniket, a 22-year-old from Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, was bought for Rs 30 Lakh by SRH at the IPL 2025 mega auction. He has so far only played one domestic match for Madhya Pradesh – a T20 game in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in December 2024 but that ended in a duck.
However, Aniket, who can also bowl right-arm medium pace, has been hugely successful in the U23s. He made headlines when he scored 101 off just 75 balls for MP against Karnataka in a U23 one-day tournament late last year. In that tournament, Aniket scored 184 runs at an average of 46 and with a strike rate of 152.06. He hit 16 sixes in the tournament.
Earlier in the Madhya Pradesh Premier League in June 2024, Aniket smashed 244 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 205 for Bhopal Leopards. His highest score in the 2024 Madhya Pradesh Premier League was 123 in just 41 balls including 13 sixes as Bhopal made 278.
