Royal Challengers Bangalore team and captain Smriti Mandhana received a surprise video call from star batter Virat Kohli on Sunday after the women’s team of the franchise finally ended their long wait for a trophy. In the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 final, RCB defeated Delhi Capitals by eight wickets to win first trophy in the history of the franchise. The men’s team of RCB has reached the Indian Premier League (IPL) final thrice, but haven’t won the trophy yet.

After RCB’s title win at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, former RCB captain and player who is with the side from the first season in 2008, Kohli made a special video call to the team and Mandhana to congratulate them on the title win. The players were seen speaking to Kohli in excited manner and making chants.

Not only Kohli or RCB, the city of Bengaluru and its resident were also super happy withe the WPL title. There were reports of crackers being bursted in the city after Mandhana and Co defeat Delhi Capitals.

The WPL title win means a lot for the cricket franchise which is one of the best supported sides in cricket despite lack of trophies.

Coming to the WPL final. Delhi batted first and at one stage were in a very strong position at 64/0 before Sophie Molineux picked up the wickets of Shafali Verma (44), Jemimah Rodrigues (0) and Alice Capsey (0) in a same over. DC lost their 10 wickets for just 49 runs to be bowled out for 113.

In reply, RCB took their sweet time to complete the chase but always stayed in control of the proceedings, losing just two wickets.

Skipper Mandhana scored 31, while Sophie Devine scored 32. Ellyse Perry (35 not out) and Richa Ghosh (17 not out) guided RCB to the title, completing the chase in 19.3 overs.
