Kashvee Gautam, the most expensive uncapped player in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), will have to wait a little longer to make her debut after getting ruled out of the second season on Monday due to injury.
Gautam had been acquired by by the Gujarat Giants for a whopping amount of Rs 2 crore after a bidding war with the UP Warriorz in the player auction that took place in December.
The fast-bowling all-rounder from Chandigarh, who had collected all 10 wickets in an U-19 one-day match against Arunachal Pradesh in 2020, was among the most talked-about players heading into the second season of the league.
Mumbai bowler Sayali Sathgare was named Gautam’s replacement by the Giants on Monday at her base price of Rs 10 lakh.
Besides Gautam, Royal Challengers Bangalore and India all-rounder Kanika Ahuja too has been ruled out of the second season owing to an injury. The Smriti Mandhana-led side have named Maharashtra left-arm quick Shradda Pokharkar as her replacement in the squad.
Ahuja had been sold to RCB for Rs 35 lakh in the first-ever WPL player auction that took place in February last year and would go on to make seven appearances for her side, collecting 98 runs at a strike rate of 132.43 with a top-score of 46 against UP Warriorz.
The second season of the Women’s Premier League gets underway from Friday with defending champions Mumbai Indians taking on the Delhi Capitals in what will be a rematch of last year’s final.
