World Cup 2023: 'Tried to use past experience of bowling on flat wickets', says Bumrah on his spell against Pakistan

Jasprit Bumrah continued his fine form of display in India’s 2023 World Cup clash against Pakistan in Ahmedabad on Saturday, with his figures helping the team see off the Men in Green for 191. After the match, Bumrah said that his past experience of playing IPL matches on flat tracks helped him. “There I tried to use my IPL experience about how to bowl on flat wickets. I have been playing in the IPL for the past 11 years, so it helps,” said Bumrah.

“I have played a lot of junior cricket on this ground. Since it was a flat wicket, I tried to implement that experience of mine here,” Bumrah said during a conversation with Hardik Pandya, in a video posted on BCCI’s official ‘X’ handle. “Before getting hit for four boundaries, it’s vital to realise about the wicket right after one boundary. That’s what I was trying to communicate,” continued Bumrah, who was adjudged the Player of the Match.

Mohammed Siraj was also in conversation with Bumrah and Hardik, and Siraj recalled Bumrah’s brilliant spell against Afghanistan in Delhi, where he took four wickets. Pandya, meanwhile, credited Bumrah for his thinking mind while bowling: “If he gets hammered for a four off a flick, he instantly bowls a slower one. He is a legendary bowler,” said Bumrah. Siraj explained his dismissal of Abdullah Shafique, who was out for 20. “I had a talk with Rohit about Abdullah Shafique’s wicket. While my first bouncer didn’t work well, I tricked him into guessing about another bouncer and bowled a fuller one to trap him leg-before,” added Siraj.
