Four individuals were detained temporarily and then released for waving the Palestine flag during the Pakistan vs Bangladesh match at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Tuesday. The four visitors to the World Cup contest were detained at the Maidan police stationed in the city. They are residents of Bally, Ekbalpore and Karaya PS areas,” a senior police officer was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. “We had detained them for waving the Palestinian flag near Gate 6 and Block G1,” the IPS officer told PTI.

“Policemen posted at Eden Gardens initially could not understand what the protesters were up to. Then they waved the Palestine flag before being detained. They, however, did not raise any slogan,” he added. The four individuals, reported to be in their twenties, were protesting on the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict. In the contest, Pakistan clinched a 7-wicket win over Bangladesh to keep themselves alive in the World Cup. Bangladesh, meanwhile, were bundled out of the tournament.
