Pakistan ended their World Cup campaign having finished in fifth place with eight points. The Men Green had begun their campaign with wins over Netherlands and Sri Lanka, but a string of losses to teams like India and Australia put their semi-final hopes in jeopardy. In their last match, Pakistan suffered a 93-run loss at the hands of defending champions England. “We will sit together and take stock. We’ll take positives from this and discuss mistakes. I’m keen to lead the rebuild,” Pakistan captain Babar Azam said after the defeat to England. Following Pakistan’s shocking World Cup exit, their fast-bowling coach Morne Morkel decided to step down from his position. Morkel’s resignation comes a month before his contract was set to expire.
