One million fans have so far made their presence felt at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, currently being held in India. The millionth fan turned up at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad during the South Africa vs Afghanistan match on Friday. At that time, there were six matches still to be played in the competition. The current edition of the tournament now looks to be on course to break records as the most attended Cricket World Cup ever. “With over one million attendees and record-breaking viewership, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 has reminded cricket fans around the world of the support and interest in the ODI format that highlights how much World Cup cricket is valued," Tetley said in a press release shared by the ICC.
Despite what was initially seen as a disappointing attendance at the inaugural fixture of the World Cup in Ahmedabad, fans have been flocking to watch the matches across the 10 grounds in the competition so far. The excitement is, however, far from over. Now, we are on the cusp of the semi-final games. The upcoming two semi-finals will take place on November 15 and 16, followed by the final scheduled happen on November 19. Hosts India have till now been in brilliant form in the tournament. Team India are unbeaten so far and will finish the table on top. In their last league stage game, India will face the Netherlands on Sunday. Then they will take on New Zealand in the semi-finals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. On the other hand, South Africa will take on Australia in the other semi-final at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
