It should be mentioned here that there was no opening ceremony for this year’s World Cup. The tournament started on 5 October with the England vs New Zealand match taking place at the same venue. The absence of an elaborate opening ceremony was a deliberate choice by the BCCI, as they wanted to focus on a pre-match show preceding the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan clash instead.
As we approach this match between India and Pakistan, the hosts certainly enjoy a clean slate. In the history of ODI World Cup matches, these two sides have met on seven occasions, and India have won all of them.
