World Cup 2023 Final: 'Was trying to do different things,' Mitchell Starc after three-wicket haul against India

Australia fast bowler Mitchell Starc on Sunday hoped that his team had restricted India for enough runs in the 2023 Cricket World Cup final in Ahmedabad. Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood combined to take seven wickets between them to dismiss India for 240 in their allotted 50 overs. While Starc registered figures of 3/55, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins finished with figures of 2/60 and 2/24 respectively. “You can always plan for things, the way we contributed with the ball is fantastic first up and now out there (need to do the job) with the bat. There is not a whole heap of help for the seam bowlers and swing bowlers, was trying to do a few different things, vary the pace a little bit,” Starc told broadcasters Star Sports during the innings break. “Patty (Cummins) and Josh (Hazlewood) were outstanding and obviously a little bit of reverse at the back end. Hopefully we restricted them to enough (runs),” he added. Virat Kohli (54) and KL Rahul (66) scored fifties after Rohit Sharma (47 off 31) got India off to a fiery start, but for a better part of the innings, the boundaries had dried up. Not only that, the likes of Shubman Gill (4), Shreyas Iyer (4) and Surryakumar Yadav (18) all fell to big match pressure. At the time of writing this report, Australia were 16/1 in the chase, just having lost David Warner (7).
