All-rounder Washington Sundar was included in India’s squad for the second and third Tests against New Zealand on Sunday. Sundar’s inclusion in the India Test squad comes in the aftermath of the hosts’ eight-wicket defeat to the Kiwis in the first Test in Bengaluru on Sunday. Sundar scored a century for Tamil Nadu in their ongoing Ranji Trophy Elite Group D match against Delhi in Delhi. He scored 152 runs off 269 balls in the first innings.
“The Men’s Selection Committee on Sunday added Mr. Washington Sundar to India’s squad for the remainder of the IDFC First Bank Test series against New Zealand,” a BCCI release said on Sunday. “Mr Washington Sundar will link-up with the squad in Pune ahead of the second Test,” the release added.
The 25-year-old last played a Test for India against England in March 2021. He had scored an unbeaten knock of 96 and taken a wicket, helping India win by an innings and 25 runs.
Till date, the spinner has played four Tests and taken six wickets, while also having scored 265 runs (Three fifties). The second India-New Zealand Test will be played in Pune from 24 October, whereas Mumbai will host the third Test between the two teams from 1 November.
