Wanindu Hasaranga is set to come out of Test retirement after he was included in Sri Lanka’s 17-member squad for the upcoming two-match series against Bangladesh that starts from 22 March. However, this would also mean Hasaranga will miss Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) first three matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season that also starts from Friday.
Hasaranga, who has played four Tests for Sri Lanka till date, had announced retirement from the longest format last August. However, the all-rounder was included in the squad that also has uncapped spinner Nishan Peiris.
The first Test will be played in Sylhet from 22-26 March, while the second tie is slated from 30 March to 3 April at Chattogram.
Hasaranga was roped in by SRH at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore. As per the IPL schedule announced for the first two weeks, SRH will take on Kolkata Knight Riders on 23 March in Kolkata. They will travel to Hyderabad for the tie against Mumbai Indians on 27 March and then proceed to Ahmedabad for the game against Gujarat Titans on 31 March.
It remains to be seen if the right-arm spinner will be available for SRH’s home fixture against Chennai Super Kings on 5 April.
