 "T20 World Cup 2024: Virat Kohli links up with Team India in New York ahead of Bangladesh warm-up clash")
Senior India batter Virat Kohli arrived in New York on Friday and joined the Team India camp ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup that gets underway on Saturday. According to a report in News18 CricketNext, Kohli, however, did not attend India’s optional practice session on Friday as he had only landed in New York a few hours ago.
Before the optional practice session, The Men in Blue also had two net sessions which were attended by all players except Kohli. India take on Bangladesh in their only warm-up fixture of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Saturday, and while a majority of players were in a relaxed mood, Rishabh Pant and Rinku Singh were the only specialist batters who took part at the nets.
With regards to Kohli’s participation in the warm-up match against Bangladesh, that will be up to the management. “The management will take a call on who travels to the venue. Whether all 19 or some stay back. Completely the management’s call. Similarly, with Virat Kohli. The management will keep his travel and everything in mind before taking the final call,” a source close to the development told News18 CricketNext.
India are scheduled to play three out of their four group stage games in New York and the players will be training at the Cantiague Park. However, it had been reported on Thursday that India were unhappy with the “average” practice facilities that were provided to them. It’s also important to note that Cantiague Park is a makeshift arrangement with six drop-in pitches made available to the teams.
India open their campaign against Ireland in New York on 5 June, and four days later, the Rohit Sharma-led side will lock horns against Pakistan at the same venue. They will face co-hosts USA on 12 June before moving to Florida for their final group match against Canada on 15 June.
