Virat Kohli on Saturday ended his poor run of form with a half-century during the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa in Barbados. Kohli, who had only scored 75 runs from seven matches prior to this, got to his fifty off 48 balls, hitting four fours in the process.

Like he has done before in this T20 World Cup, Kohli opened the innings for India with Rohit Sharma and the duo were off to a brisk start, aggregating 15 runs in the first over. Rohit, however, was dismissed by Keshav Maharaj in the second over, and just a couple of balls later, the Men in Blue lost Rishabh Pant as Maharaj struck once again.

India were 34/3 in the fifth over following the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav, but Kohli and Axar Patel (47) forged 72 runs for the fourth wicket before the all-rounder was run-out in the 14th over. Kohli was dismissed for 76 by Marco Jansen in the 19th over. India finished their innings at 176/7 from 20 overs, with Proteas needing 177 runs to win.
India are looking to clinch their first ICC title since the 2013 Champions Trophy, whereas South Africa’s only ICC triumph so far remains the 1998 KnockOut Cup.
