Frustrated Virat Kohli supporters targeted the wrong Himanshu Sangwan on social media after the pacer dismissed the star India batter for just 6 runs during the Ranji Trophy match between Delhi and Railways. Several users with the same username were forced to put out statements, clarifying they are not the same Sangwan who had dismissed Kohli.

Virat Kohli’s much-anticipated return to domestic cricket ended in disappointment as he was dismissed for just six runs in his first Ranji Trophy appearance in over 12 years. The former India captain, who took the field for Delhi against Railways in their final group-stage match, was bowled by pacer Himanshu Sangwan after hitting a boundary in the previous delivery.

Sangwan’s well-directed inswinger shattered Kohli’s off-stump, making him an overnight sensation in the domestic circuit . However, while some fans praised the Railways bowler for his moment of brilliance, others took a different approach, especially Kohli’s supporters, who attempted to target Sangwan on social media.

The catch? They went after the wrong Himanshu Sangwan.

Sangwan’s clever off-field move saves him from Kohli’s supporters

Some reports claimed the 29-year-old bowler from Najafgarh made his Instagram profile private a day before the match anticipating potential online hate, as a result of which other social media users with the same name found themselves at the receiving end of Kohli’s frustrated supporters. Some of them even took to their profiles to clarify that they had nothing to do with the dismissal.

Sangwan, however, has clarified that he has always kept his Instagram handle private. “I have always kept my Instagram account as private. It is not like that I made my account private ahead of the match against Delhi,” he said after stumps on Day 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

While social media outbursts from passionate Kohli supporters are not new, this incident highlights how sometimes the wrong person gets targeted. Meanwhile, Sangwan, the real architect of Kohli’s dismissal, is enjoying his newfound fame as he looks to make a name for himself in Indian domestic cricket.

After dismissing Kohli, Sangwan was seen celebrating aggressively. The video of his celebration went viral on social media platforms.
