The India women’s cricket team defended the U19 Women's T20 World Cup titl e with a dominant nine-wicket win over South Africa in Kuala Lumpur on Sunday. Having been asked to field first after losing the toss, the Niki Prasad-led side scripted a brilliant all-round display as they saw off South Africa for just 82 runs. Mieke van Voorst was the top-scorer for South Africa with 23 runs.
Gongadi Trisha (3/15) was the pick of the bowlers for India, whereas Vaishnavi Sharma (2/23), Aayusi Shukla (2/9), Parunika Sisodia (2/6) and Shabnam Shakil (1/7) were also among the wicket-takers’ list. India lost wicketkeeper G Kamalini in the fourth over of their reply. India were 36/1 at the time, but Gongadi Trisha (44*) and Sanika Chalke (26*) forged 48 runs for the second wicket to see India home and lift the trophy.
