Both former skipper Rohit Sharma as well as one-down Naman Dhir departed for golden ducks thanks to a couple of sensational deliveries from the New Zealand left-arm pacer to close out the first over of the Mumbai innings.
After starting the innings with three dots, wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan collected a single to get off the mark in the fourth delivery. Boult would then surprise Rohit with a scrambled seam length delivery next up that the ex-MI skipper could only get an outside edge to, with Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson completing a fine catch behind the stumps.

Dhir was then trapped leg-before the very next delivery after getting hit on the pad right in front of middle and leg the very next delivery, leaving Boult on a hat-trick at the end of the first over. The Punjab batter tried reviewing it, but got the marching orders after ball-tracking showed the ball to be clipping the top of the stumps.

More ShortsBoult, who has been consistently getting the early breakthroughs for the Rajasthan Royals in the powerplay, wasn’t done though as he would remove Dewald Brevis — also for a golden duck — in his next over. Brevis, who came in as an Impact Sub in place of Dhir, got a thick outside edge that resulted in the ball flying to short third man, where fellow South African Nandre Burger held on to the catch.

Burger would then join the wicket-fest the following over by having wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan caught-behind with a snorter of a delivery — a short ball that rose higher than expected. Kishan departed for 16 off 14 deliveries as the five-time champions, who have lost both of their matches so far in the ongoing season, were reduced to 20/4 inside four overs.
Skipper Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, however, decided to take the attack back to the red-hot RR pacers, helping MI reach 46/4 at the end of the powerplay with a flurry of boundaries.
