New Zealand seamer Tim Southee is a doubt for the Cricket World Cup after breaking a bone in his right thumb in the fourth ODI against England at Lord’s on Friday. Southee sustained the injury while attempting to take a catch in the 14th over of England’s innings. “A timeline for his recovery will be established tomorrow when he undergoes further assessment,” New Zealand said.

Meanwhile, substitute fielder Finn Allen, who had injured his finger while attempting a catch, has been cleared of any fracture. There were other injury concerns as well for New Zealand in the game. Daryl Mitchell injured his ring finger while taking the Jonny Bairstow catch in the slip cordon and had to leave the pitch but he later returned to bowl in the match and also batted in the second innings. The last blow came in the form of Ben Lister who was forced to leave the pitch with a hamstring issue after bowling six overs. The Black Caps have confirmed that Lister will be returning to New Zealand for further assessment of his injury.
