Batting legend Virender Sehwag has named his strongest playing XI for India in the T20 World Cup 2024 and the biggest surprise is that he has not picked all-rounder Hardik Pandya. The former swashbuckling opener, however, said that Pandya should be a part of the squad.

Sehwag revealed his preference on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast.

“Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Surya Kumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Rinku Singh or Shivam Dubai. Out of those two, one. Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Sandeep Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja.” Sehwag replied when asked about his picks for India’s playing XI.

Sehwag’s response stunned Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan, who were also part of the podcast, as the India legend did not pick Pandya, but he added: “He should be in the 15. Yeah, but you ask. Eleven.”

The T20 World Cup starts on 1 June and India play their first match on 5 June against Ireland. All teams have to submit their provisional squad by 1 May to the International Cricket Council (ICC).

There are reports that India’s squad for the T20 World Cup 2024 could be out by Sunday (28 April) or Monday (29 June). It has also been reported that India captain Rohit Sharma, coach Rahul Dravid and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar are set for a meeting this weekend in Delhi.

Rohit’s Mumbai Indians have a match against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday and the captain is expected to be in the national capital during the weekends.
