Pakistan have failed to reach the Super 8 stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 which offered automatic qualification for the 2026 T20 World Cup but the Men in Green are still set to take part in the tournament after two years. And that’s only because of their ICC ranking. As per the qualification rules for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will also have 20 countries, 12 teams will be given a direct entry.

Two direct spots will go to the co-hosts – India and Sri Lanka – while eight direct sports will go to the eight teams from Super 8s. As India have already qualified as co-hosts, seven teams from Super 8 – Australia, England, West Indies, South Africa, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and the USA – have now directly qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup besides India and Sri Lanka.
Three more direct spots are still available and these will be decided by the ICC’s T20I rankings as of June 30, 2024. The three highest-ranked teams apart from the nine sides that have already qualified will get a direct entry into the 2026 T20 World Cup. New Zealand (6), Pakistan (7), and Ireland (11) are well ahead of other contenders in the ICC rankings and should seal their direct entries on 30 June.
The remaining eight spots for the T20 World Cup 2024 will be decided through regional qualifiers.
The eight sides that entered the 2024 T20 World Cup through regional qualifiers were Nepal and Oman (Asia), Ireland and Scotland (Europe), Namibia and Uganda (Africa), Canada (Americas), and Papua New Guinea (East Asia Pacific).
