Two-time champions and co-hosts West Indies on Friday announced their 15-member squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup. The side will be led by skipper Rovman Powell whereas Alzarri Joseph has been named the vice-captain.
Notable faces in the squad include Shimron Hetmyer and Shamar Joseph, who is yet to make his T20I debut. Joseph, the 24 year-old pacer, has played just three Twenty20 matches till date. Joseph took the cricketing world by storm when he registered figures of 7/68 during a Test against Australia in Brisbane earlier this year.

Hetmyer, meanwhile, last played a T20I for West Indies in December last year, against England. He thus wasn’t part of the squad that took on Australia in a three-match T20I series this year. Hetmyer had been dropped from West Indies squad for the 2022 T20 World Cup after missing his flight to Australia. He had been replaced by Shamarh Brooks.
Also in the squad are Andre Russell, Jason Holder and Nicholas Pooran. Russell and Pooran are both plying trade in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) respectively.
West Indies are in group C for the 2024 T20 World Cup along with New Zealand, Afghanistan, Uganda and Papua New Guinea. They begin their campaign against PNG in Guyana on 2 June.
