The dismantling of the Nassau County International Stadium in New York began on Thursday, a day after the venue hosted its final match of the 2024 T20 World Cup between USA and India. The New York venue was constructed in just over three months and was a temporary venue, with drop-in pitches being brought in from Adelaide and made in Florida before being installed in New York.

The stadium hosted eight matches of the 2024 T20 World Cup, including the India vs Pakistan match on 9 June, which was a low-scoring thriller.
How did the pitch perform?
A total of 10 pitches were installed in New York ahead of the T20 World Cup. There were four drop-in pitches that were installed at the ground and six pitches which were installed at the Cantiague Park, which was the training ground for players.
The pitch in New York, however, was far from perfect especially for the batters, who found it difficult to even collect boundaries at times mostly due to the slow outfield. It also had uneven pace and bounce which assisted the bowlers. The batters, however, had a hard time navigating those deliveries. One of those instances was when India skipper Rohit Sharma was struck on his right arm after facing a bouncer from Ireland’s Josh Little during India’s first group game. Rohit, though, brushed off serious injury concerns, saying that it was just a “little sore arm”.
During a practice session ahead of the Pakistan match, Rohit again suffered an injury blow, this time on his thumb. On the aftermath of this, the BCCI lodged an “unofficial” complaint with the ICC, who had promised a “better” surface following the criticism.
