Team India were off to a forgettable start in their 2024 T20 World Cup match against Pakistan in New York on Sunday, having lost both openers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in early on in the powerplay phase. Both Kohli and Rohit were dismissed by Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah respectively, within the space of just an over.

The toss was delayed by 30 minutes due to rain, whereas the start of play was further delayed by another 50 minutes. In the third ball of the first over, Rohit dispatched a length ball off Shaheen for a six over midwicket fence. That boundary brought cheer among Indian fans but it did not last long as rain once again played spoilsport after just one over.

However, that rain delay was a short one, and soon after play resumed, Rohit collected another boundary, clipping towards deep square leg fence.
Kohli was the first to get dismissed. Kohli was dismissed by Shaheen in the second over after Kohli, who looked to slap over point region, ended up gifting a catch opportunity to Usman Khan who was stationed at cover point.
Naseem then broke through in the third over with the wicket of Rohit Sharma. A full and straight ball from Naseem, Rohit aimed to flick over square leg region, but failed to time the shot as Haris Rauf took a comfortable catch.
India are coming into this match on the back of an eight-wicket win over Ireland in their first group stage match. Pakistan, meanwhile, suffered a shock defeat to USA in their first match, and need to win this contest to keep their hopes of making the Super Eight stage alive.
