T20 World Cup 2024: India vs Canada head-to-head record, stats

Team India will lock horns against Canada in their final Group A match of the 2024 T20 World Cup on Saturday as the action moves to Lauderhill in Florida. India have already secured their spot in the Super Eight stage of the T20 World Cup, doing so with a seven-wicket over co-hosts United States of America on Wednesday. India thus became the third team, after South Africa and Australia, to qualify for the next round, with West Indies and Afghanistan also having secured their berth.

With just one win three games, Canada’s hopes of making the Super 8s hang in the balance. They are in fourth place with two points, with an inferior NRR (-0.493) to that of Pakistan (+0.127) with the same number of points.

India have never faced Canada in a T20I match so far. Friday’s meeting at the Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Florida will be the first time the two teams face off in the shortest format.

India’s run in 2024 T20 World Cup so far

Rohit Sharma-led India began their T20 World Cup campaign with an eight-wicket win over Ireland in New York’s Nassau County International Stadium. The Men in Blue won the toss and opted to field first, and saw off Ireland for 96 on a controversial pitch. Hardik Pandya (3/27) and Jasprit Bumrah (2/6) were the pick of the bowlers.

Rohit Sharma (52) and Rishabh Pant (36*) forged a half-century stand for the second wicket to eventually guide India to victory.

In their second match against Pakistan, the Men in Blue were asked to bat first, but were bowled out for 119. However, Jasprit Bumrah stepped up once again with figures of 3/14 to restrict Pakistan to 113/7.

India were also put to test in the third game against USA on Wednesday, as far as their batters were concerned. India restricted USA to 110/8 from 20 overs, but a top-order collapse meant India were 39/3 at one stage. However, Suryakumar Yadav (50*) and Shivam Dube’s (31*) 72-run stand led the visitors to a seven-wicket win.

Canada’s run in T20 World Cup 2024 so far

Canada began their inaugural T20 World Cup campaign with a seven-wicket loss to USA in Dallas. Knocks from Navneet Dhaliwal (61) and Nicholas Kirton (51) led them to 194/5, but USA would chase it down on the back of an unbeaten 94 from Aaron Jones.

Canada got their first-ever win of the tournament in the second match against Ireland. Canada were put to bat and posted 137/7 after Kirton’s 49. The bowlers led by Jeremy Gordon (2/16) and Dillo Heyliger (2/18) helped Canada clinch a 12-run win in the end.

However, the Canadans received a reality check in their third match of the group stage against Pakistan. Canada were restricted to 106/7 after batting first, and Pakistan, in their reply, had it quite comfortable, with Mohammad Rizwan (53) and Babar Azam (33) forging 63 runs for the second wicket to win by seven wickets.
