After the USA-Ireland match at the same venue on Friday was washed out due to rain, there were rain threats looming ahead of the dead rubber between India and Canada. India had qualified for the Super Eight stage with a seven-wicket win over USA on 12 June.

The T20 World Cup 2024 Group A match between India and Canada was on Saturday abandoned due to rain in Florida. The result meant that India ended the group stage as table-toppers with seven points from four matches. Canada, meanwhile, will bow out of the tournament with three points from four matches.

After the USA-Ireland match at the same venue on Friday was washed out due to rain, there were rain threats looming ahead of the dead rubber between India and Canada. India had qualified for the Super Eight stage with a seven-wicket win over USA on 12 June. USA’s washout against Ireland , meanwhile, led  to the co-hosts progressing to the Super Eight in their debut tournament while eliminating Pakistan, who just have the solitary win against Canada. Pakistan take on Ireland in the final contest of Group A in Florida on Sunday.

While there was light rain on Saturday morning, the outfield was damp from Friday showers which led to a second straight abandoned game at the venue. The United States-Ireland game on Friday never started. Pakistan and Ireland are scheduled to play at the ground on Sunday.

While the teams waited for a decision, India’s Rishabh Pant and coach Rahul Dravid went to the boundary to sign autographs, and Virat Kohli posed with some of the Canada players.

India begin their Super Eight campaign against Afghanistan on Thursday in Barbados.

Later Saturday, were two important matches to determine who joins Australia from Group B in the Super Eight. Defending champion England should beat Namibia in Antigua to qualify. But Scotland would replace England if they manage to upset Australia in Saint Lucia.
