India qualified for Super 8s by finishing top of Group A in the first round, however, their entry into Group 1 for the second round of the tournament was a given due to the pre-determined seeding. India were seeded A1. This means even if they qualified as their group’s second-best team, they would still have been placed in Group 1.
Pakistan were given A2 seeding but because they were knocked out, USA, the second team to qualify from Group A, took the A2 seeding and are now part of Group 2 in Super 8s. Similarly, New Zealand and Sri Lanka were pre-seeded C1 and D2 and were set to be part of Group 1 but due to their elimination, Afghanistan and Bangladesh from their respective groups take those seedings and enter Group 1.
Super 8 format: Eight teams have been divided into two groups with four sides each. They will play one match against their other group members and the top two teams from each group will reach the semi-finals.
Super 8 Groups:
Group 1: India (A1), Australia (B2), Afghanistan (C1), Bangladesh (D2)
Group 2: USA (A2), England (B1), West Indies (C2), South Africa (D1)
