After much speculation and anticipation, the Team India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup was announced on Tuesday following a BCCI selection committee meeting in Ahmedabad. The Rohit Sharma-led side features veteran batter Virat Kohli, whose place in the squad was reportedly under question, as well as opener Yashasvi Jaiswal. Shubman Gill, however, has been named as a travelling reserve along with Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.
While the wicketkeepers’ place was one of the fiercely contested spots leading upto the team selection, Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson both made the squad following a few impressive knocks in the IPL.
The all-rounders in the squad include Hardik Pandya (Who is also the vice-captain), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzbendra Chahal find places in the squad whereas the pace attack consists of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj.
Reactions poured in on micro-blogging platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) once the squad for the showpiece tournament in West Indies and USA was announced. Many of them felt that Rinku Singh should have made the final squad, and not just being in the reserves.
