Australia’s Josh Hazlewood says knocking England out of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 would be in the best “interests” of the Aussies “as well as probably everyone else”. Hazlewood’s comments came after Australia thrashed Namibia by nine wickets to qualify for Super 8.

After Namibia were bowled out for just 72 in 17 overs with Adam Zampa taking 4/12 from four overs. Australia chased down the target in just 5.4 overs.
Australia will play Scotland in their final Group B match at St Lucia on Saturday which will directly impact England’s chances.
“In this tournament, you potentially come up against England at some stage again. And as I said, they’re probably one of the top few teams, on the day or, you know, we’ve had some real struggles against them in T20 cricket,” said Hazlewood.
“If we can get them out of the tournament then that’s in our best interests as well as probably everyone else.
“It’s a weird thing to say. I’ve never really been in this position before as a team. I don’t think so. Whether we have discussions or not or we just try and play it again the way we did tonight. Again, that’ll be up to people, not me.”
England have two matches left, against Oman and Namibia, and they need to win those matches to have any real chance of qualification. But if Scotland, who are on five points, beat Australia then England will be knocked out regardless of their results in the two matches.
