A new video of the Surykumar Yadav catch which turned the match in India’s favour and fired the Men in Blue to the 2024 T20 World Cup title has emerged. Suryakumar took an incredible catch in the final over to dismiss David Miller as India won the T20 World Cup final by seven runs against South Africa.
With 16 needed from the last over of the match, South Africa’s Miller smashed the first ball off Hardik Pandya to long-off, and just when it looked like it was destined for a six, Suryakumar sprinted toward the ball and plucked it out of thin air. He, however, was about to cross the boundary line after taking the catch and was forced to toss the ball in the air while he crossed the fence and came back to complete the catch.
Chasing 177 in the final at Barbados, South Africa were eventually restricted to 169/8.
Now a new video with a fresh angle of the catch has appeared on social media which underlines SKY’s brilliant work during the catch.

Recently in an interview, Surykumar relived the moment he took the catch.

More Shorts“Rohit bhai usually never stands at long-on but at that moment he was there. So when the ball was coming, for a second I looked at him and he looked at me. I ran and my aim was to catch the ball. Had he [Rohit] been closer, I would have thrown the ball towards him. But he was nowhere close. In those four to five seconds, whatever happened, I can’t explain,” Suryakumar told the Indian Express.
His catch has also given birth to the debate that Suryakumar probably touched the ropes while taking the catch, but the Indian cricketer is confident he did not.
“When I pushed the ball [up and inside the playing area] and took the catch, I knew I hadn’t touched the rope,” SKY said. “The only thing I was cautious about was that when I pushed the ball back inside, my feet don’t touch the rope. I knew it was a fair catch. In hindsight, anything could have happened. If the ball had gone for six, the equation would have been five balls, ten runs. We might have still won, but the margin would have been closer.”
