The Pat Cummins-led ‘Orange Army’ have been in solid form in the 17th season of the IPL after finding themselves in the bottom half of the table in the last three seasons, finishing with the wooden spoon in 2021 and 2023. After starting the season with a narrow defeat against Kolkata Knight Riders, the Sunrisers have won five out of six matches and are among the early contenders for the playoffs.

A win for Hyderabad will help them move past KKR to the second spot on the points table.

RCB, meanwhile, are on the verge of bowing out of the playoffs race after losing seven out of eight games this season — their only victory coming against Punjab Kings at home. Though they will likely remain mathematically alive, a defeat on Thursday will practically end their hopes of sneaking through to the knockouts.
