Sourav Ganguly comes forward to help ailing former teammate Jacob Martin, tells his family they aren't alone

After Jacob Martin’s family reached out to BCCI to seek financial help for the former India player’s recovery, several former and current players from Baroda and India have come forward to help the 46-year-old cricketer. Martin had met with a road accident on 28 December and is currently on a life support system. The family is in dire need of money to meet the expenses of Martin’s recovery. As per a report published in The Telegraph, Ganguly said, “While praying for Martin’s speedy recovery, I’d like his family to know that they don’t stand alone.” Ganguly was captain when Martin made his debut for India against Zimbabwe in the year 1999. Reuters[/caption] He said, “Martin and I have been teammates and I remember him as a quiet, introvert-type of person…” As per a report published in the Indian Express, BCCI has also stepped in to help the former player get back on his feet by sanctioning Rs 5 lakh for his recovery. Baroda Cricket Association has also contributed a sum of Rs 3 lakh. The other players, apart from Ganguly, who have come out to help Martin are Irfan and Yusuf Pathan, Zaheer Khan and Munaf Patel. Martin played for India from 1999 to 2001, in 10 ODIs. He also led Baroda to their maiden Ranji Trophy title in 2001.
