Sobhana Asha became the first Indian to take five wickets in an innings in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She achieved the feat in her team Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win over UP Warriorz on Saturday. RCB beat UPW by a slender two-run margin at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The Keralite leg-spinner record figures of 5/22 to take the game away from the UP Warriorz who were cruising to the target at one point.
The 32-year-old got rid of Vrinda Dinesh and Tahlia McGrath early in her first spell.
The player from Thiruvananthapuram then dismissed Shweta Sehrawat (31), Grace Harris (38) and Kiran Navgire (1) in the 17th over to steer RCB into the command.
Asha, who has played for Kerala, Railways, Pudducherry and India ‘A’ in her career, won Player of the Match honour. In the previous season, she had taken five wickets in five matches. She’s matched that tally in one match now.
