India opener Shubman Gill took part in a practice session behind closed doors in Ahmedabad on Thursday morning, training with throwdown specialists as he aims to be fit for the 2023 World Cup clash against Pakistan. World Cup 2023: News | Schedule | Results | Points table According to News18 CricketNext, Gill started training with throwdown specialists around 11 am at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Thursday, and batted for an hour. “Shubman Gill was here in the morning and he did bat around one hour. Not many people were around when he was batting and he left the premises moment he was done with the hit,” an official of the Gujarat Cricket Association told News18 CricketNext. The ground staff at the stadium only got to know about Gill’s practice on Thursday morning, and eventually set up the net for the youngster. “We were told about it in morning and we prepared the net for Shubman Gill. We were not inside when he was batting but could hear the sound of the bat,” a curator said. Gill had been suffering from dengue , and has missed both of India’s matches, against Australia and Afghanistan, so far. On Wednesday, he had flown to Ahmedabad from Chennai to continue his recovery and regain fitness before the Pakistan game.
In both the matches, Ishan Kishan opened with Rohit Sharma. While Kishan was dismissed for a duck against Australia, he went onto score 47 runs against Afghanistan, which eventually proved to be a match-winning effort. The India vs Pakistan match takes place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday. India are placed second in the World Cup points table with four points, behind New Zealand on net run-rate, and ahead of Pakistan, who are third with the same number of points. Pakistan are winless in seven World Cup meetings against India.
