Former Pakistan captain Babar Azam was surprisingly not among the top-10 searched people in Pakistan for 2023, as reported by the widely-used search engine Google. Babar was in the news for a significant part of the year, but he still did not make it to the exclusive list of this year’s most searched personalities. It’s worth noting that Azam also did not feature among the top personalities that Pakistanis searched for in 2022. Finding a place in the top-10 list were young cricketers Abdullah Shafique and Saud Shakeel, along with the emerging talent Haseebullah Khan. There were other cricket figures that secured spots in the top 10 and they were Australia’s Glenn Maxwell and India’s Shubman Gill. Both Maxwell and Gill featured above Azam in searches through the year. The top 10-searches for people in Pakistan in 2023 saw a wide range of personalities. Social media influencers Hareem Shah and Aliza Sehar emerged as top names in searches this year. The third position went to Bollywood actor Tiger Shroff. Babar Azam stepped down as Pakistan captain after their mediocre World Cup campaign. Shan Masood was appointed Test captain while Shaheen Afridi was given the mantle of the the T20I side. On the other hand, Shubman Gill’s stocks continued to rise as he was named captain of Gujarat Titans after Hardik Pandya moved back to Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL auctions. The most searched matches included the Pakistan vs New Zealand, Pakistan vs Afghanistan, and Pakistan vs Australia encounters. As far as politics is concerned, Pakistan’s caretaker Prime Minister Anwar ul Haq Kakar was most searched and it was a testament to the country’s keen engagement with political developments.
Babar Azam was in the news right through the year, but he was not searched enough in Pakistan.
