Shabnim Ismail of the Mumbai Indians recorded the fastest delivery in women’s cricket against Delhi Capitals during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) fixture on Tuesday. Ismail bowled a 132.1 kmph delivery in the third over of the match with Meg Lanning on the receiving end. Lanning, who missed on making proper contact with the delivery, was hit on the front pad. Mumbai Indians appealed for leg before but it was turned down.
South Africa seamer Ismail has breached the 130 kmph barrier for the first time in women’s cricket since speeds have been recorded.
When asked if she was aware of the fastest delivery, Ismail said she doesn’t “look at the big screen when I am bowling.”
In international cricket the fastest delivery record also belongs to Ismail, when she bowled at 128kmph against West Indies in 2016. She had also breached the 127kmph mark twice in the 2022 ODI World Cup.
In the ongoing WPL, Ismail had bowled a 128.3 kmph delivery in the opening game of the tournament, also against Capitals.

More ShortsEven as Ismail bowled with blistering pace, Mumbai Indians, including the seamer herself, were far from their best against Delhi Capitals in the national capital. After going for 14 runs in two overs, Shafali Verma smacked Ismail for consecutive sixes to begin the third over. Ismail did get her revenge with Verma dismissed for 28 runs. In the end, the South African finished with figures of 1/46 from four overs.
As far as the match is concerned, DC beat MI by 29 runs .
Ismail, 35, had retired from international cricket in May 2023, bringing curtains on a 16-year career. She played 241 international games, including 127 ODIs, 113 T20Is and a Test, and picked 317 wickets across formats. She is now a regular in T20 leagues.
