Watch: Sachin Tendulkar meets Vinod Kambli at Ramakant Achrekar's memorial ceremony in Mumbai

Indian batting icon Sachin Tendulkar had an emotional reunion with former teammate and childhood friend Vinod Kambli during the unveiling of a their former coach Ramakant Achrekar’s memorial in Mumbai on Tuesday.

In a video shared on social media, Tendulkar can be seen approaching Kambli, who has been facing health-related issues recently. Tendulkar shook hands with Kambli during the event, before being asked to leave. Kambli also sang a song, paying tribute to Achrekar, and Sachin Tendulkar applauded Kambli’s performance.

Both Tendulkar and Kambli were coached by Ramakant Achrekar during their days of school cricket. In a Harris Shield semi-final match in 1988, Tendulkar and Kambli had forged a memorable 664-run partnership, with both of them scoring unbeaten triple centuries.

In August this year, a video which showed Kambli, 52, being unable to walk, went viral on social media. Kambli has in fact faced several issues related to health, even having suffered a heart attack in 2013. He had also undergone angioplasty to treat blocked arteries in 2012 and has also struggled with depression.

After playing together at the school level, Tendulkar and Kambli also went on to play for India as teammates. Tendulkar enjoyed an illustrious international career spanning 24 years, which included scoring more than 34,000 runs across formats while also winning the 2011 ODI World Cup with India.

Vinod Kambli, meanwhile, played 17 Tests and 104 ODIs for India between 1991 and 2000, scoring 3561 runs across both formats.

Ramakant Achrekar passed away in 2019 at the age of 87 . Achrekar was conferred with the Dronacharya Award in 1990.

Apart from Tendulkar and Kambli, other former students of Achrekar, including Paras Mhambhrey, Sanjay Bangar, Sameer Dighe, and Pravin Amre were present at the event on Tuesday.
