India vs South Africa, 2nd T20I in Gqeberha Result: Varun Chakravarthy’s brilliant figures of 5/17 go in vain as Tristan Stubbs (47*) and Gerald Coetzee (19*) help the Proteas snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with an unbroken 42-run stand for the eighth wicket. Chakravarthy’s heroics nearly helped India go 2-0 up at St George’s Park despite posting a modest 124/6, only for Stubbs and Coetzee to ruin their evening.
India vs South Africa, 2nd T20I in Gqeberha TOSS: South Africa win the toss, and skipper Aiden Markram opts to field under overcast conditions in St George’s Park.
India vs South Africa, 2nd T20I in Gqeberha Preview: After their clinical victory in the tour opener in Durban, Team India will be looking to go 2-0 up in the fourth-match T20I series against South Africa when they face the Proteas in the second T20I at St George’s Park in Gqeberha on Sunday.
Opener Sanju Samson had starred in India’s thumping 61-run victory over the Aiden Markram-led Proteas, smashing 107 off just 50 deliveries to become the first Indian batter to slam back-to-back T20I tons. Thanks to his game-changing knock as well as Tilak Varma’s handy 33 off 18 deliveries helped India post 202/8 despite losing wickets in a heap towards the end.
Leg-spinners Varun Chakravarthy (3/25) and Ravi Bishnoi (3/28) led the way with the ball thereafter by collecting three wickets each as the Proteas struggled throughout the chase after losing skipper Aiden Markram in the very first over, and were eventually bowled out for 141.
India had toured South Africa last year as well, playing three T20Is and as many ODIs followed by a two-Test series. In the T20I leg of the tour that ended in a 1-1 draw, the Proteas had gone 1-0 up after a washout in Durban with a five-wicket victory in a rain-affected encounter in Gqeberha, where the second match of the ongoing series will take place.
