Virat Kohli was dismissed for a low score for the second time in as many days, departing for 17 after getting trapped LBW off Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s bowling on Day 2 of the first Test between India and Bangladesh.

And to make matters worse, Kohli was later found to have been adjudged LBW after getting a faint inside-edge, which elicited an annoyed reaction from skipper Rohit Sharma in the dressing room.

Kohli had been dismissed for a run-a-ball 6 on Day 1 after nicking the ball to the slips off Hasan Mahmud’s bowling on the opening day of the Test at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

The Indian batting superstar was off to a better start on Day 2, collecting a couple of boundaries and building a steady third-wicket partnership with Shubman Gill that helped the hosts recover from yet another shaky start.

Kohli, however, was dismissed just minutes before close of play after getting trapped leg-before off off-spinner Mehidy’s bowling, resulting in the 39-run stand coming to an abrupt end.

The former India skipper had a quick word with Gill, and ultimately decided to march off without taking the review. Replays, however, showed a faint spike on UltraEdge at the time of the ball passing close to Kohli’s inside edge.

The next replay showed Rohit’s reaction to the incident, and he was far from impressed, knowing the kind of impact Kohli might have had on the Tigers had he stuck around and converted his patient start into a big score.

Despite Kohli’s dismissal, India ended the day comfortably on top at 81/3 with Gill batting on 33 and Rishabh Pant unbeaten on 12.

They stretched their lead to 308 in the process, having bundled the visitors out for 149 earlier in the day thanks to Jasprit Bumrah’s 4/50 as well as two-wicket hauls from Ravindra Jadeja (2/19), Akash Deep (2/19) and Mohammed Siraj (2/30).
