Rohit Sharma reveals he's no longer in-charge of DRS, names players he trusts to make the calls

Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Team India has been in roaring form and they have extended their impeccable winning streak at the World Cup with a resounding victory over Sri Lanka at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. A remarkable 302-run triumph against Sri Lanka ensured India’s spot in the semi-finals. World Cup 2023: News | Schedule | Results | Points table India batted first against Sri Lanka and posted a mammoth total of 357, setting the stage for a spectacular performance by their bowlers. A stellar bowling effort by the Indian pacers saw Sri Lanka being bundled out for 55 runs. Team India captain Rohit Sharma was satisfied with the compact performance of his side and said that he was pleased with the clinical approach of his players. Rohit also highlighted the significance of accurate Decision Review System (DRS) calls and said that he trusts his bowlers and wicketkeeper to opt for correct referrals. He said at the post-match press conference, “I have left it to the bowler and the keeper (whether or not to take a review) to make that decision for me, and I gotta find the individuals I can trust and I know it can go the other way as well. We got one right and one wrong today.”

India’s accuracy in DRS calls were on full display against Sri Lanka after wicketkeeper KL Rahul made a perfect decision to opt for the referral. Pursued by Rahul’s appeal, India opted for DRS in a bid to dismiss Sri Lanka’s Dushmantha Chameera. The on-field umpire felt Mohammad Shami’s delivery went down the leg stump without connecting Chameera’s bat and as a result gave a wide signal.

Replays, however, suggested that the ball had touched Chameera’s gloves forcing the umpire to overturn his decision. Needless to say, the successful DRS brought joy in the Indian dressing room and Rahul was seen sporting a big smile following the reversal of the on-field decision. Indian captain Rohit Sharma was also extremely satisfied with the way his bowlers put up dominant performances in various conditions. He praised Mohammed Siraj as a quality bowler, emphasizing the impact he makes while operating with the new ball in back-to-back wins against England and Sri Lanka.
