The India squad for the 2024 T20 World Cup is expected to be picked in the upcoming few weeks, and one of the tightly contested spots is the wicketkeeper’s position. Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan are all fighting for the wicketkeepers’ slot but thanks to his promising form in IPL 2024, the veteran Dinesh Karthik too has also emerged as a possible candidate for the slot.

Karthik has scored 226 runs from seven matches for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) with a strike-rate of 205.45 with two fifties to his name. And while it remains to be seen if he will be seriously considered by the BCCI selectors, India skipper Rohit Sharma had a funny take on this topic.

Dhoni, too, has showcased that age is just a number as the 42-year-old has produced a few thrilling finishes, including a four-ball 20 not out against MI.

“I was quite impressed, especially with Dinesh Karthik. The way he batted a couple of nights back (vs SRH). Dhoni as well. He came to play four balls against us and made a huge impact with those 20 runs. Eventually it proved to be the difference in the end,” Rohit told on the Club Prairie Fire podcast.

He jokingly said that while it would be hard to convince MS Dhoni to come out of international retirement, it will be easier to convince Dinesh Karthik.

“It’ll be hard to convince MS Dhoni for the World Cup. He is sick and tired. He is coming to the US. He is into golf now so he’ll be playing that in the US. DK will be easier to convince,” added Rohit, who is currently playing with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2024.
