That means the post of the BCCI secretary will fall vacant for the first time in five years, and according to a report in Dainik Bhaskar, Rohan Jaitley is the frontrunner to replace Jay Shah as BCCI secretary.

Who is Rohan Jaitley?

Born in New Delhi, Rohan Jaitley is the son of the late Arun Jaitley, who had served as the Finance Minister of India from 2014 to 2019. Like his father, Rohan went onto become a lawyer. He focussed on cases before the Supreme Court of India and the Delhi High Court. Rohan was named the Central Government Standing Counsel for the Delhi High Court earlier this year.

Rohan’s journey in cricket administration began only four years ago, when he was named as the new president of the Delhi & District Cricket Association. In 2023, Rohan was re-elected as DDCA president unopposed, for a second term. The post of DDCA president was held by his father for 14 years.

The Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi successfully hosted five matches of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the ongoing Delhi Premier League under Rohan’s administration. Some big players like Rishabh Pant and Ishant Sharma are taking part in the Delhi Premier League. Arun Jaitley, on the other hand, was an influential figure in BCCI, having served as the vice-president of the BCCI.
